Carving designs into leather-hard clay - that is my passion. I love the graphic quality of my black & white designs but I am also experimenting with terra cotta clay for a red to black contrast. This method of carving is called "sgrafitto" - an Italian word meaning "to scratch" - but my inspiration comes from Native American carved pottery. Each piece gets three layers of black underglaze, then the design is carved into it, revealing the clay underneath. Listening to my favorite Native American flute music while carving is simply heaven to me.
My work is functional - I specialize in large serving bowls but if you want one-of-a-kind dinnerware, give me a call. Vases & wall pieces are also available for your home or office.
Have a look around and maybe you will find something that fits your taste.
